Liquid Organic Fertilizer

Liquid organic fertilizers gives your garden that quick boost it needs. During the growing season, give your plants a nutrient feeding every two weeks or so.

This is especially important for your fast-growing vegetables and fruit, as well as making your flowers bloom bigger and brighter. While natural fertilizer is mainly slow-release, many plants still need large boosts of nutrients at key times, which the soil may not be able to provide. Foliar feeding (applying liquid to the leaves) is an acceptable and sometimes vital practice to produce larger and tastier food.

When to Apply Liquid Fertilizers

For vegetables and fruit, apply during all the stages of flower blooming, growth and maturity. For flowers, begin applying just before blooms and during the growth of the plant. Apply in either early morning or early evening, when the fertilizer will be absorbed better – too sunny, and some of the liquid will evaporate too fast. Cloudy (but not rainy) days are excellent as well.

How to Properly Apply

For foliar feeding, spray on the undersides of the leaves (the pores are more likely to be open on the underside than top), and apply until it’s dripping. Use a regular sprayer, but never one that uses pesticides. No matter how good you clean it, there will always be residue. Follow the manufacturure’s instructions for dilution and application, as improper methods or too much fertilizer can burn your plants.
